Talks
All of my articles can also exist as talks.
I’ve spoken at online and offline events. At universities and at conferences. I’ve done keynote addresses, pecha kuchas (where you’re limited to 20 seconds per slide) and talks where you’re not allowed slides at all.
A selection of my recent events can be found below.
BIMA Beyond 2023: The Age of Average
In September 2023 I was invited to present The Age of Average at BIMA Beyond. Thank you so much to everyone who attended, and especially those who message to give such positive feedback. I can’t wait for the next one.
University of West London: The Errors of Efficiency
In November 2022 I was invited to give a 45 minute guest lecture to Masters students on the Digital Marketing course at the University of West London based on my article The Errors of Efficiency.
WEDFresh: The Age of Average
In an article for Vanity Fair, the writer Kurt Anderson’s shared his theory that the last 20 years have been the most stylistically stagnant of any two-decade period since 1900. Alex’s talk will explore this idea across a number of different fields. Have film, fashion, architecture, and advertising become more homogenous? And if so, what can we do about it?
Isolated Talks: The Pitfalls Of Purpose
I contributed to Isolated Talks, a site aiming to keep creativity flowing during the COVID-19 lockdown and to raise money for the Samaritans whilst doing it.
Strategy Finishing School: The Art Of Questioning Clients
I collaborated with Julian Cole on a presentation titled “The Art of Questioning Clients”. The project led us to study the questioning techniques of FBI hostage negotiators, the Metropolitan police force and criminal barristers.
